Q.  I don't have time to join another organization; why should I join the Knights of Columbus?
A.
As a Knight you can choose the projects with which you wish to be involved in your own community. Since our council is involved in 45-50 activities a year, you are sure to find some programs that are right for you. What is more, the Order is dedicated to family life and the many benefits it offers. From insurance to scholarships to service and social activities and programs, all are open to the whole family. As a Knight you can continue doing what you do now and you and your family can enjoy the many benefits the Order offers.
A better question is: Why shouldn't you be a Knight?

How To Join
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years old. A practicing Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church.

Short application blanks are available from any member of the Knights of Columbus. If you want more information, contact our Membership Director Bob Brown any officer, or e-mail us and a Knight will contact you. As we said above, chances are you have several friends who are Knights. Ask them if they are a Knight or if they want to join together.

Fourth Degree
Any Third Degree member in good standing, one year after the anniversary of his First Degree, is eligible for membership in the Fourth Degree. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called "assemblies"). Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus.

Squires
Under the guidance of Christian Brother Barnabas McDonald (1865-1929), the first Columbian Squires circle was instituted in 1925. Membership in the Squires is for Catholic boys between the ages of 12 and 17. Squires' activities are many, varying from spiritual to active service for the Church and community. Each circle elects officer members from their own rank, teaching skills of leadership and responsibility.

Council 7740 is currently seeking members for the Squires Circle. If you yourself or a young man you know may be interested, contact any officer or e-mail us and a Knight will contact you.

Why should I join?

Faith
As Knights, our faith is our foundation. Dedicated to the Catholic Church .s growth and her good works, we support religious outreach, promote vocations, and provide financial support for seminarians and postulates. This way, we help support our Church and strengthen our personal faith

Community
As committed as we are to the Catholic Church, so are we to our communities. By actively and financially supporting Special Olympics, by leading the charge in pro-life, or by safeguarding the environment, Knights of Columbus members all over the world have helped countless communities prosper.

Family
As fathers and husbands, serving our families is not only part of what we do, it .s part of who we are. To that end, Knights of Columbus councils offer programs hat strengthen family and marital bonds by holding numerous family focused events, including the .Family of the Month . program that honors outstanding families. Most importantly, as Knights, we are able to provide assistance and support to Knights and their families whenever needed.

Youth
The importance of helping today's youth become tomorrow's leaders is also a huge focus of the Order. For that reason, many local councils sponsor Columbian Squire Circles, the Order's official youth organization for Catholic young men, ages 10-18, which provide them the unique opportunity to develop leadership skills. Additionally, through activities such as the Catholic Citizenship Essay contest, the Substance Abuse Poster contest, and the annual Free Throw championship, the Knights of Columbus assists youth in building a strong sense of civic and religious responsibility.

Fellowship
To be a Knight means to believe in each other as we believe in ourselves; realizing that by creating strong, social, and supportive local councils, we help create a stronger Order worldwide and ensure an even stronger future.
